![]() Central Turbine Maintenance is a service department in the Generation division, entrusted with maintenance of all the 16 running turbo-generator units of CESC and also monitoring and commissioning of new units. This specialised group was formed in 1962 with 15 men, primarily for carrying out only day-to-day maintenance of turbo-generator units in CESC. Over the years this has grown to the present form of CTM Department with about 70 skilled workmen, led by a team of 15 highly competent engineers and technical supervisors. The team has been successfully carrying out all required maintenance jobs including the very specialised activities like reblading, in-situ dynamic balancing, electrical stator and rotor fault repair, etc., apart from looking after erection and commissioning of the new units. To assist CTM in their efforts to be able to maintain CESC plants without any direct involvement of our foreign manufacturers, we have developed a few selected sub-contractors with reliable equipment and skilled manpower for carrying out some specialised jobs like 'centrifugal relining of white metal bearings and thrust pads', 'application of sprayed or dry blanket type thermal insulation', ' cleaning of blades and other internals of the turbines using alumina blasting', ' in-situ NDTs including metallography' etc. The teamwork has been producing excellent results.
