Generation

CESC at present has four generating stations. Mulajore Generating Station, which was sixty years old, was finally closed down, as it was not found techno economically viable to continue operation there. The other old station, New Cossipore Generating Station is also more than fifty four years old and can effectively generate 100 MW.

The other three Pulverised fuel fired stations namely, Budge Budge, Titagarh and Southern, are all ISO certified and their combined capacity is 875 MW. All the Thermal Power Plant connected to the centralized control room of CESC through elaborate SCADA network with communication medium using optical fibre and TDM/TDMA and associated devices. With all the above facilities, the system presents a total integrated network providing complete MIS, Control and Monitoring of other operating facilities for optimum efficiency.

In CESC every effort is made towards improving plant availability. In the year 2003-2004 the Plant availability of each of the three PF Stations varies between 92% to 94% and touched a combined Plant Load Factor of 80.18%. Dispatch schedule is planned to maximize own generation to the extent feasible under a widely different evening peak and night lean demand scenarios. It is often required to shut down some of the units at night to cope with the varying dispatch demand. CESC plants mostly operate within the norms prescribed by Regulatory Authority. The Company also takes stringent measure to ensure that all its Generating Stations comply with the governing environmental standards.

CESC has a total Generation capacity of 975 MW.
