Highest ever demand for power this Puja
|
|
An all-time high power demand of 1359 MW in the CESC area was recorded on the eve
of the Puja festivals this year on Wednesday, September 27. The previous highest
peak demand (1343 MW) occurred exactly a year ago on September 27, 2005.
According to Mr. Dilip Kumar Sen, Executive Director, "CESC successfully met the
all-time high demand from its own generation, as also supplies from the
State Electricity Board. The number of temporary supplies to Puja pandals in CESC
area rose to 2885 this year, against 2801 in the previous year.
A healthy trend in complying with the law is now noticeable. The number of power
theft cases detected this year, following intensive checks in Pandals,
went down to 115 from 413 in the previous year."
An analysis of applications received by CESC for temporary connections during Puja
reveals that the highest number of applications (430) were received from Howrah,
followed by 417 in Northern part of Kolkata.
