What is the interest rate and how is it calculated?

The unadjusted advance payment under CRES will carry an interest rate of 10.5% p.a. The interest would be accrued monthly on the first working day of every subsequent month.  It will be credited to the CRES account, for adjustment against your electricity bill, for that month.

How will the transactions be shown on the monthly electricity bills?

Your electricity bill will state the unadjusted balance under CRES as on the first day of the month in which the bill is generated, before adjustment of the bill of that month. Of course, the bill iself will be a credit bill for your information only, and you will not have to pay for it as long as the unadjusted balance is more than the bill amount. You will also get a quarterly statement, seperately, showing the particulars of the operations in your CRES account.

The scheme  details

 

The net monthly electricity bill amount will be adjusted from the amount advanced under CRES.

Interest will be credited on the first day of the month to the CRES account and will be available for adjustment against the electricity bills falling due during the month.This adjustment process continues every month till the CRES

 

 

When did the CRES scheme come into effect?

The scheme started from March 1, 2002.

Where will the application forms be available?

Application forms for advance payments under CRES will be available at the Regional Offices of CESC.

Where will the applications be deposited?

Completed application forms,together with the cheque/demand draft/cash and a copy of the previous month's bill,may be submitted at any of the collection centres mentioned in the application form.

Are you eligible for CRES?

You can avail of this scheme as long as it is against a specific consumer number.You can also use this scheme to pay the electricity bills of any other consumer you may wish to - a convenient way to look after your loved ones (a separate CRES account needs to be opened for each consumer number).

What will be the advance amount?

The minimum advance amount is Rs 5,000 per connection, including new connections. Further amounts will be accepted

The advance amount paid is totally secure with CESC,as any depletion will only be for adjustments made against your future electricity consumption.

Also,during the scheme period,consumers will continue to enjoy their existing rights.If any abatement/adjustment is allowed,due to any dispute arising in respect of any earlier bill/s already adjusted through the CRES account,then such adjustment would be effective from the due date of the respective bill,for the purpose of calculation of interest.

Can additions be made to the advance?

Yes. A minimum amount of Rs 3,000 and further amounts in multiples of Rs 1,000 only, can be added to the advance. Additions, together with the unadjusted balance, should be within the limits. as specified above.

Can the advance be withdrawn?

Yes, the advance can be withdrawn under special circumstances as mentioned in the terms and conditions in the application form. The refund amount will be in favour of the person who made the advance payment and not the consumer, if they happen to be different persons.

Salient features at a glance

  • Application forms may be obtained from any of the Regional Offices of CESC.

  • You may also call 1912, any time, for free home delivery of the application form.

  • Minimum initial advance Rs 5,000.This is an open-ended scheme and you can periodically add to your advance.

  • A maximum of 60 times the previous monthly bill amount, or Rs 5,000, whichever is higher,can be accepted as advance payment.

  • Advances paid in cash will be accepted up to a maximum limit of Rs.19,000 at a time.

  • The money paid by you under this scheme starts earning interest from the date of credit of funds to the CRES account.

     

  • Photocopy of  the previous month's electricity bill along with the Cheque/Demand Draft/Cash should accompany the application form for submission.An acknowledgement of receipt of the application would be given across the counter at the collection centres.
  • Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the service provider of this scheme , will issue a statement to those registering with this scheme, within 15 days of the credit of funds to the CRES account intimating the CRES account number for the advance and the exact month from which the adjustment would start.All your future correspondence should quote your CRES account number.
  • Thereafter, statements will be issued every quarter by TCS, showing the advance amount initially paid, the monthly deductions made and the interest credited on the balance unadjusted amount.
  • The unadjusted credit balance before adjustment for the month will also be reflected in the monthly electricity bills.
