AUDIT CONFERENCE, 2001

The second annual conference of the internal auditors of RPG Group Companies was held in Kolkata from 22nd to 24th February, 2001. Mr. Sanjiv Goenka addressed the auditors on the second day of the conference. In his valuable speech, he revealed the expectation of the top management from the internal auditors on their new role in the transparency and governance process. He stressed on the need of quality audit to fulfill the expectation and advised that all significant abnormalities and irregularities should be escalated to the top management in time. In turn, he assured full support of the top management to the internal auditors in discharging their responsibilities.

The conference was inaugurated by Mr. B. C. Malu, President - Corporate Resources. Key note addresses on management's expectation from the internal audit were delivered by Mr. Arvind Agarwal, President - Corporate Development and Human Resources, RPG Enterprises and Mr. Avik Mitra - Managing Director, Saregama India Limited.

Mr. H. L. Mundra, Chief Financial Officer of the group, clarified the objectives of the conference and showed the way forward. Mr. J. Mavlankar, Vice President, Group Business Audit, emphasised on cohesiveness and improvements in the quality of audit.

The conference was planned to impart training to the group company internal auditors on latest tools and techniques in modern auditing and to facilitate them to interact with one another and mutually share their audit experiences. The training programmes were conducted by M/s Price Waterhouse Coopers and M/s Arthur Anderson. Mr. Anjan Chowdhury, General Manager (Finance) of CESC Limited, highlighted the finer points in reducing the risks in foreign exchange transactions.

The internal auditors of the group companies made presentation on various aspects of internal audit function. CESC's presentation was adjudged the best and Mr. Sanjiv Goenka handed over the coveted trophy to Mr. M. K. Roy, the Chief Internal Auditor of the Company.



THE 10TH INVITATION MERCANTILE MIXED BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

The 10th Invitation Mercantile Mixed Basketball Tournament organised by the Womens' Basket Ball Association of West Bengal was won by RPG Enterprises with a score of 47-30 against Williamson Magors.  

Female : Heather Hyrapiet, Navaz Verma, Padma Rao, Lorna Thomas, Poonam Shaw & Natalie Vaz. 
Male: Gautam Bose, Christopher Thomas, Claudius Chow, Richard Fanthome, Bhaskar Banerjee, Arjun Mukherjee & Hozefa Khairulla.

Gautam Bose             was judged the best male player of the Tournament &

Heather Hyrapiet       "The Lady of the Tournament".  

RPG Enterprises were also awarded the “Most Disciplined Team” of the tournament. 

The tournament was run over a period of two weeks from the 17th of February '01 and concluded on the 3rd of March '2001. 

This makes it the 6th time that RPG Enterprises has emerged winners.  

The match was covered by the local T. V. Channels and was covered by the leading newspapers The Telegraph & Hindustan Times.

CESC, Tisco in final :

CESC B trounced INDAL 2-0 to advance to the losers plate final of the IBP Merchants Cup tennis competition at the Calcutta South Club on Friday. Debasish Roy and Indranil Guha defeated Uday Lokre and Girl Chaturvedi 6-3, 6-1. In the second match, Sandeep Majumdar tearmed up with Manis Banerjee to blank R.K.Rao and A.Bhatnagar 6-0,6-0. In the final, they will meet Tisco.

INDAL 2-0 (Debasish Roy and Indranil Guha bt Uday Uday Lokre and Girl Chaturvedi 6-3, 6-1; Sandeep Majumdar and Manis Banerjee bt R.K.Rao and A.Bhatnagar 6-0,6-0); Tisco bt ITC 2-0 (K.Sanjeev Singh and Rishad Chinoy bt Rahul Chowdhury and Buddhadeb Ghosh 7-5,6-2; Kalyan Sen and Daniel Augustus bt Supratim Dutta and Arup Ghosh 6-2,6-4).

Merchants Cup

Ashish Sen and Sujoy Dutta of CESC A beat Udayh Lokre and Girl Chaturvedi of INDAL 6-2,6-2 to reach the final of the IBP Merchants Cup tennis meet. P.P.Majumdar and B.Nag Chowdhury, also of CESC A, defeated the other INDAL duo of R.K.Rao and A.Bhatnagar 6-0 6-0 in the other semi final.
